Known issues
-
Common
1.5T oil dilution (TLX, Integra)
The 1.5 turbo can dilute engine oil with fuel on short winter trips. Check the dipstick for a rising oil level or fuel smell, and change oil more often than the maintenance minder suggests.
-
Watch out
Timing belt on older V6 models
Older MDX, RDX and TL V6 engines use a timing belt, not a chain. Replace it roughly every 160,000 km or 7 years — a snapped belt destroys the engine.
-
Common
Infotainment glitches (True Touchpad)
2019+ models can suffer frozen screens and an unresponsive touchpad. Usually fixed by software updates rather than hardware replacement — check for open updates before paying.
-
Common
Rust on older Canadian Acuras
Pre-2012 MDX and RDX models rust around rear wheel arches, rockers and subframes in the salt belt. Inspect underneath carefully before buying used.
Acura TLX

Common
1.5T oil dilution

Watch out
Timing belt service (V6, pre-2022)
The J-series V6 needs a belt kit roughly every 160,000 km. Ask for proof it was done — a broken belt means a new engine.
