1. Who we are
Auto Repair Price Checker is a Canadian car-repair price checker and directory of independent auto repair shops. This policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.
2. Information you give us
- Price reports (“Report a Price”): vehicle, service, price paid, city, and optional comment. Used to keep our price estimates accurate.
- Quote requests (“Get a Quote”): your name, phone number, the service you need, and optional details about your car. Stored for the site owner and may be shared with repair shops so they can prepare an estimate.
- Questions (“Ask a Mechanic”): your name and your question. Questions are moderated and may be published publicly on this site together with our answer.
- Shop reviews: your name and review text. Reviews are moderated and may be published publicly on the shop’s page.
- Shop promotion payments: when a shop owner buys a directory boost, the payment is processed by Stripe. Card details never touch our servers — we only receive the payment confirmation and your contact email.
We do not create visitor accounts and we do not sell your personal information to anyone.
3. Information collected automatically
- Server logs: IP address, pages visited, and browser type — used for security and troubleshooting.
- Anonymous statistics: we count page views, popular pages, and feature usage with a cookieless, anonymous identifier that changes every day. No cookies are set for this, no IP addresses are stored, and the data cannot be used to identify you.
- Map: the repair-shop map loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap; your location never leaves your browser unless you tap the "Near me" button, in which case your coordinates are sent to our server only to sort nearby shops.
- Session cookie: a single cookie that keeps the site administrator logged in. Visitors do not need cookies for the calculator or directory to work.
4. Cookies and Google products
This site may display ads through Google AdSense and measure traffic with Google Analytics (both are optional features enabled by the site owner in the admin panel).
When these Google products are active, Google may set cookies or use web beacons on your device, and may collect identifiers, IP addresses, and information about your visits to this and other sites — for example to serve and measure personalized advertising. You can learn how Google uses data from partner sites at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and control ad personalization at adssettings.google.com.
5. Where your data is stored
Form submissions are stored in the website’s database on its hosting server in Canada. The site owner may download database backups for safekeeping.
6. How we use the information
- operate the price calculator and shop directory;
- moderate reviews and price reports;
- respond to quote requests;
- protect the site from spam and abuse.
7. Your rights
You may ask us to correct or delete your review, price report, or quote request. To do so, send a message through the “Get a Quote” form with the details of what you submitted.
8. Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. The current version is always published on this page with the date shown above.
